What do you hope to accomplish this year as the Market President of Philadelphia, PA?

“One of the things I would really like to do this year is to expand our municipal parking operations. A solid parking management solution is key to a successful city or town. Great municipal parking is important because it can ensure safe and efficient traffic flow, reduces traffic congestion, and can support local businesses by providing safe and convenient parking for their customers. Not to mention, it can help generate revenue that can be used to improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

This year we secured a contract with the town of Haddonfield, NJ to manage over 1000 on-street parking spaces. It was an amazing opportunity to see how our full-stack gateless parking solutions can be used outside of parking lot and garage operations. The community has really taken a liking to using our free mobile app to pay for their parking experience.”

How did you get started in the Parking Industry?

“I got started in parking while spending a year in Denver. I wanted to be a ‘ski bum’ and was looking for a job with a flexible schedule so I could enjoy as much time in the mountains as possible. I got a job working nights as a valet for Star/Lone Star Parking. I was in the position for about 3 nights, before I was asked to manage the downtown area. I learned some important things at that job. One of them being how important it is to take care of employees. Providing great training, valuing their input, and making them know they’re part of a team keeps them engaged and increases productivity.”

What brought you to Premium Parking?

“A bit of serendipity. I was new to New Orleans and my resume somehow ended up on Jim Huger’s desk. Premium had an opportunity to provide service to the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans (CHNola) which ended up being an incredible role for me. Forming friendships with the kids and parents, dressing up on holidays, giving out candy and toys, doing whatever we could to put smiles on faces, really helped me develop a better understanding of how to provide service in the service industry. I’ve been back in Philly for 4 years and still maintain many of the friendships I formed at CHNola.”

Now that spring is here, what are some of your favorite activities to do in Philadelphia, PA this time of year?

“I’m a bit of an EV (electric vehicle) nerd. I really enjoy riding my E-Bike down the Schuylkill River Trail, exploring great neighborhoods like Callowhill, finding amazing food, and of course searching for new parking opportunities. This city has so many cool places to explore and when you are on an e-bike or scooter you get a unique perspective that you simply can’t get in a car. When you’re in town be sure to park your car in one of our lots and head over to PhillySkooterz on N. Broad St. to rent one and give it a try.”

What are some of your favorite food spots?

“I’m a huge foodie and Philly has a world class culinary. Whenever someone comes to visit, I try to take them to Zahav which won the James Beard award for best restaurant in the country. I’m also right down the street from Reading Terminal Market, which is so dangerous to my waistline. The pastrami Reuben sandwich from Hershel’s East Side Deli when I’m there. Philly is a sandwich town, and everyone talks about the cheesesteaks, but personally I think the Reuben from Hershel’s is the best sandwich in the city.”

What is one piece of advice you would give someone who is just starting their career at Premium Parkin?

“Every time I talk with a new hire at Premium Parking, I share my story of starting as an Accounts Manager and how I quickly advanced to the Market President role. I let them know that this company provides great opportunities for people who put in the work. I urge them to learn as much as possible from the amazing people that work here and lastly to make it known that they want to advance. We currently have over 750 locations across 60 markets and the company is always expanding, adding new markets, and gaining new operations. So, there are always open positions and chances for career advancement.”
