Parking & The City - An Evening with Donald Shoup.

Premium President Ben Montgomery, Donald Shoup, and Business Development Manager Kirstin Erwin.
Premium’s team had the opportunity to attend Donald Shoup’s symposium on “getting parking right” and spend some time with the legend who made parking cool.
Shoup, a distinguished research professor in Department of Urban Planning at the University of California and the leading authority on progressive parking polices, was in Pensacola, Florida presenting at CivicCon.
His groundbreaking book The High Cost of Free Parking was a foundational look at how cities manage, charge and set policies for parking and encourage neighborhood development.
He followed up this year with his latest, Parking and the City, which provides a first-hand case study of the cities who put his theories and practices to work.
His focus and approach remain the same as he shares advice to improve cities, their economies and the environment:
· Remove off-street parking requirements
· Charge the right prices for on-street parking
· Spend the parking revenue to improve public services on the metered streets
Premium’s culture and operating philosophy has been hugely influenced by Shoup’s work.
We are honored to hear his insights firsthand.
